A Message from the Program Director
It is a privilege to work alongside such extraordinary residents, faculty, and staff at the Kootenai Clinic Coeur d’Alene Family Medicine Residency. Although we have a long name, our mission is simple, we train broad-spectrum family physicians to meet the needs of their future communities.
We are fortunate to be supported by a forward-thinking medical institution that recognizes the critical importance of preparing the next generation of family physicians. Kootenai Health is a regional medical center serving the 10 northern counties of Idaho, and our unopposed residency program offers exceptional opportunities for our residents to gain the experience they need to be rural-ready, regardless of their future practice scope or location.
Our faculty are deeply committed to broad-spectrum family medicine and to life-long learning. Innovation drives both our curriculum and our approach to patient care. Patients remain at the heart of everything we do. We take great pride in being community-focused and in providing compassionate care for all who live in our region.
We are also incredibly fortunate to live and work surrounded by lakes, rivers, and mountains. This region is rich in history and offers a unique quality of life. We believe a person’s environment plays a key role in overall health outcomes, and ensuring access to the outdoors is part of our commitment to a thriving community.
As someone who grew up in Idaho, I take great pride in training family physicians who will become leaders in their communities and help to strengthen towns large and small across our region. After graduating from the University of Idaho, I worked in laboratory science at Yale University before attending medical school at the University of Connecticut. It was there that the breadth and depth of family medicine resonated with me, and I knew I wanted an immersive training experience. I found that at UCLA-Santa Monica during my residency, where I also discovered my passion for academic medicine.
Since joining Kootenai Clinic Coeur d’Alene Family Medicine Residency at its inception in 2014, I’ve been honored to be part of its growth and I’m excited to continue leading our program into the future.
